About ICOMM 2016

The 11th International Conference on Micromanufacturing (ICOMM 2016) will be held in the Orange County, California, USA, on March 29-31, 2016 and it is hosted by the University of California, Irvine.

The Conference, organized by the International Institution for Micromanufacturing (I2M2), is bringing together the worldwide community of micromanufacturing experts. It is focused on the processes, equipment, and systems for fabricating miniature parts with micro/nano/meso-scale features.

ICOMM 2016 outcomes

Winners of best paper and honorable mention awards, and outstanding student presentation

During the International Conference on MicroManufacturing ICOMM 2016, the following awards were made by the Conference’s Scientific Committee:

  • Outstanding Paper Award was earned by Arnoldo Salazar (Univ. of California, Irvine), Braulio Cárdenas Benítez, Bidhan Pramanick, Sergio Martinez-Chapa (Tecnológico De Monterrey), Marc Madou (Univ. of California, Irvine) for their paper titled “Nano-gap Fabrication in Suspended Carbon Nanowires using Joule Heating”.

  • Honorable Mention Award was earned by Victor Perez-Gonzalez (Tecnologico De Monterrey), Vinh Ho (Univ. of California Irvine), Matias Vazquez-Pinon (Tecnologico De Monterrey), Lawrence Kulinsky (Univ. of California Irvine), and Sergio Martinez-Chapa (Tecnologico De Monterrey) for their paper titled "Additive Micromanufacturing Process of Electrokinetic Surface Patterning Utilizing Electroconductive Polymers".

  • Honorable Mention Award was earned by Maxym Rukosuyev and Martin Byung-Guk Jun (Univ. of Victoria) for their paper titled “Flame Assisted Dual Velocity Nanoparticle Coating System.”

  • Outstanding Student Presentation Award was earned by Soham Sanjeev Mujumdar (Univ. of Illinois - Urbana Champaign) for presenting a paper titled “Effect of Dielectric Conductivity on Micro-EDM Plasma Characteristics using Optical Spectroscopy”.

  • Outstanding Student Presentation Award was earned by Marco Sorgato (Univ. of Padova) for presenting a paper titled “Investigation of the Influence of Vacuum Venting on Mould Surface Temperature in Micro Injection Moulding”.

  • Outstanding Student Presentation Award was earned by Lucas Abia Hof (Concordia University) for presenting a paper titled “Spark Assisted Chemical Engraving (SACE) – from subtractive to additive manufacturing technology”.

Call for Papers

Papers are sought to address theoretical and applied research issues related to manufacture, assembly and metrology for components and systems with nano/micro/meso-scale features and dimensions.

All papers must be technical in nature and include original work. Approximately 100 papers will be presented in technical sessions and published in conference proceedings. Conference papers will be peer reviewed.

  • Fabrication technologies and process chains
  • Novel product designs and assembly technologies
  • Process characterization, modeling and simulation
  • On-line monitoring and inspection systems/methods
  • Processing and characterization of smart materials and material related issues

U.S. Students Travel Funds

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is providing travel funds for graduate students studying at U.S. academic institutions to participate in the ICOMM 2016 International Conference on Micromanufacturing. The provided partial support will cover ~ 50-70% of travel, registration, and lodging expense incurred for attendance of the ICOMM 2016. However, to compete for the travel funds the graduate student must be an author or co-author of a paper accepted for the ICOMM 2016. Selection will be on a competitive basis, limited by the available funds and preference will be given to the first authors/presenters at the ICOMM 2016 conference.
